Board of Directors - ‘23/’24

The Club is run by elected Directors who volunteer their time to develop and manage our programs, events and Club overall. Directors are elected for a one -year term at the Annual General Meeting each fall.

President - Rob Greenwald

Rob is an enthusiastic triathlete who enjoys training as much as crossing the finish line.  He has completed nearly a dozen triathlons across the province, with his highlights being the Victoria and Whistler Ironman 70.3.  Rob can often be found encouraging other members to train and race with him. When club members ask Rob what he is training for next, he will most often respond “for life”.

Treasurer - Brad Hayes

Brad generally loves the outdoors. He can be found hiking, skiing, sailing, and of course, competing in triathlons. He’s been a member of the club for the last few years and has really benefited from the welcoming environment and support in learning about triathlons. Brad has completed one sprint, one Olympic, four 70.3’s and one full ironman distance event. In the last year or so he has finally learned how to train properly and will hopefully avoid injury going forward.

Secretary - Derek Williams

Derek joined the club during the pandemic and has been an active member and extremely keen cyclist since joining! His latest and greatest achievement includes participating in and completing the ICON Xtri. A gruelling extra long distance triathlon in Italy (see photos!). He is also a regular on the triple crown circuit in the summer and has done a 325km one day ride to Hope and back.

In addition to being the club's secretary, Derek is helping out in organizing our club social events, make sure to join us for some fun!

Registrar - Joseph Chavez

Born and raised in Mexico, Joseph moved to Canada in 1999 during the dotcom bubble.

A geek at heart, he quickly embraced the active lifestyle of Vancouver, participating in soccer, tennis, snowboarding, running, swimming and then naturally transitioning to triathlons when a friend dared him to participate in one.

He was hooked from the start. After a few years of unstructured trials and tribulations, he and his partner joined the club in 2017. Fun fact, they met at a triathlon, so you could say it was love at T1!

After several years of racing, Joseph defines himself as a mid-distance enthusiast, “I like half-marathons, and half-Ironmans”. He also likes destination races where you can make a vacation out of it. He has raced in Hawaii, Mexico, and California to name a few. “I like warm water and warm weather” he says.

For 2023 he has scheduled a Standard and a 70.3, complemented with a Grand Fondo and run races.

As the Registrar on the board, Joseph is responsible for keeping record of all current members and preparing the registration for all events, from swim sessions to the Holiday party.

Swim Director - Ciara Keane

Ciara moved to Vancouver from Ireland in 2019. An avid Gaelic footballer for years, she wanted to try a new challenge and that’s when she joined PSTC in late 2021. She has found a fantastic community within the club and developed lasting friendships.

Ciara has competed in two triathlons, the Victoria sprint in 2022, and the Oliver olympic in 2023, where she placed 3rd in her age group. She is looking forward to contiuning to train with the club and compete in future events.

Bike Director - Jennie McCahill

I joined PSTC in 2018 in an effort to find other crazies who would be into the whole swim, bike, run thing and crazies is what I found. I love how all-inclusive the club is and no matter how good or bad you are at a discipline, everyone is supportive of each other. As Bike Director, I hope to bring my passion for 2 wheels to everyone - exploring some new routes and terrain and organize some skills and drills sessions to make sure all members are both comfortable and safe on the road.

Run Director - Christian Hansen

I got into competitive running at an early age and added competitive cycling a couple of years later. I bike raced competitively on the road and off-road for many years before trying some duathlons in 2018 and then learning to swim later that fall in order to compete in my first triathlon in 2019. I joined PSTC in 2021 to meet some like-minded athletes and competed in my first half-iron distance race in 2022. You can often find me running around the Stanley Park seawall or riding in the hills in West Vancouver.

Communications Director - Amanda Baxter

While I am a new (ish) addition to the PSTC community, I have been completing in triathlons for quite a few years now! My love of the sport has translated into epic challenges, worldwide travel, and most importantly has brought me to this amazing community with many fantastic athletes I have the privilege to call friends.

Joining the board for me has given me the ability to give back to the community that keeps me training, working hard and tackling new fitness challenges.

As the PSTC Communications Director, I hope to have all PSTC members feel as though this is a home away from home, a supportive community that recognizes their accomplishments and acknowledge that no goal is too small or too big.

Events Director - Richie Sheldon

Richie moved to Vancouver in 2018 and joined PSTC as a way to meet people in a anew city. What a great crowd and he found himself lucky enough to be amongst them. He threw himself into the club and it’s offerings.

Always keen to get involved, you may find Richie leading group rides or as a run coach at track. He is quick to commit to some “interesting” (re crazy) ideas - like a day spent everesting on Seymour!

Now based primarily in Penticton, his role on the Board is to arrange events and support members with a focus on racing. His experience racing around Europe and North America makes him well placed to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have about racing in general or specific races. Feel free to message Richie with any questions.

Member at large - Ted Thompson

Ted was born and raised in Victoria where he developed a love of sports and outdoors. He played ice hockey growing up, but spent more time hiking and camping as time went on. Since moving to the North Shore in 2022, Ted has picked up skate skiing and has developed a love for the North Shore mountains where he hikes and skis. Never willing to settle for one event, he started bike packing and took up swimming. A natural progression was to triathlon. He has now completed in a half a dozen triathlons and is training for an Ironman competition.

Member at Large - Scarlett Liaifer

Scarlett joined PSTC in 2022 in search of a structured training and social support, as she embarked on preparing for her first triathlon. No stranger to competitive sports, Scarlett grew up representing Canada on the international stage as a ballroom dancer. When she isn’t training, Scarlett can be found playing golf, hiking, and skiing.
