Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
GENERAL INQUIRY
Is it possible to join Pacific Spirit this late in the year? (March onwards)
In short, yes, we will still take members throughout the year. But, late-comers will not enjoy some of the perks of joining at the beginning of our clinic.
Can I attend a Pacific Spirit work-out to 'try' it out?
For insurance purposes, unless you have a TriBC card, you can not attend a workout to 'try-out' Pacific Spirit Triathlon Club.
How much does the membership cost? The costs below DO NOT include TriBC cards.
Basic Membership - $75 (no pro-rate)
Do you sign up for the clinics you want to go to, or just show up?
For the most part you must sign up. Full information on sign up for clinics is available in the members only section of the club website.
SWIM-SPECIFIC
Fall Swim Clinic details will be posted in early August.
Are the swim workouts coached?
Yes. All of the swim workouts are coached except for the Sunday swims in the winter. You will be provided a structured workout throughout the season. The planned workouts are designed to build-up over the season, both in terms of distance and intensity. This is not constant 1-on-1 coaching. We have 1-2 coaches leading the entire group for a 1 hour workout. You will likely receive a few pieces of feedback per workout, or upon request.
How are different swim ability levels managed in a group swim workout?
Swimmers of the same ability level are grouped in a lane. There are usually 6 lanes ranging from beginner to advanced.
Does the Pacific Spirit Membership fee cover the cost of pool use and coaching?
No, the clinic will have a separate fee.
Am I a good enough swimmer to participate in the swims?
You should be able to swim continuously for 200m. You don't need to be fast or pretty doing it. You should not be exhausted after these 200 meters because we swim for 1 hour, and even the beginner lanes cover ~1500m in the early season, and further as the season progresses. There are breaks throughout the 1 hour, and a significant portion of each workout is dedicated to drills, which you should do at your own pace.
